OUR FACILITY

Specialty Care, with Heart — made physical

Summit was built around a specific belief: how a place feels shapes how medicine gets practiced inside it.

OUR HOME

A building reimagined for specialty care

Our home is a former human medical outpatient building on Firestone Boulevard. We reimagined it room by room for veterinary specialty care — abundant natural light, sensible flow, and every space designed around how our specialists practice and how your pet experiences their visit.

We wanted to be centrally located to serve more communities and help more pets. Summit sits just off the I-25 corridor in Firestone, within roughly 30 minutes of most of Northern Colorado — Windsor, Greeley, Longmont, Thornton, and the northern Denver metro.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

What we thought about first

We designed Summit around three things: natural light, workflow, and how the space feels — for you, for your pet, and for the team caring for them.

Natural light

We focused on maintaining and adding as much natural light as possible. Natural light matters — for patients, for owners, and for the team working long days here.

Workflow

Summit is a multi-specialty hospital with a criticalist-as-hospitalist model. The layout keeps specialist conversations easy and continuous — enabling the collaboration we believe is essential.

How it feels

A fireplace in the lobby. Lots of windows for natural light. Calm colors, comfortable seating, and a reception desk that greets you. These are deliberate choices.

WHEN YOU WALK IN

Designed around your experience

The lobby A fireplace, an inviting reception desk, refreshments, and different seating zones — close to the windows or around the fireplace — to allow you to pick a space that feels inviting to you.
Winter and weather A purpose-built covered canopy stretches across the main entrance, so you never have to navigate snow or ice while carrying a pet. It does the same job in summer — provides shade and protects from afternoon thunderstorms.
Outdoor space Landscaped garden and outdoor seating for owners who want fresh air while they wait.
Parking and access Ample parking with disabled spaces close to the entrance, ADA-accessible ramp, and the covered walkway.
11
Eleven consult rooms Every one was designed with a specific specialist in mind. Not every room has an exam table — some of our specialists prefer to sit on the floor with your pet. Comfortable seating for you, room to move, and the space and privacy to have the important discussions with the specialist and care team.
A dedicated comfort room We built a dedicated comfort room for end-of-life visits and the hardest conversations. It has access to a separate exit that allows you to leave without having to pass through the lobby.
BEHIND THE SCENES

Built for the medicine we practice

We were intentional and thoughtful about all parts of the hospital, including the parts you won’t see often.

Surgical suites At opening, we have two surgical suites and a dedicated ophthalmology procedure room. As we expand, we’ll grow to five surgical suites. Every OR is built with HEPA filtration, resinous flooring for durability and infection control, and a carefully designed pack-and-prep area in a sterile corridor. A separate treatment area handles bandage changes, lacerations, and minor procedures.
ICU Our ICU is designed for continuous monitoring of hospitalized patients and can accommodate over 20 patients safely and comfortably. We have oxygen cages for pets who need supplemental oxygen and dedicated ventilators for our most critical cases. We keep blood products on hand for emergency transfusions. Patients recovering from surgery recover in our ICU so that our criticalist can ensure every need is met.
Imaging A GE 64-slice CT scanner, a GE 1.5 Tesla MRI, digital radiography, a C-arm with fluoroscopy for real-time imaging during procedures, and a dedicated ultrasound room with its own read room next door. A board-certified radiologist is on-site at least one day per week to review advanced imaging.
Lab and pharmacy In-house diagnostic lab, in-house cytology for same-day sample review by your specialist, and a specialty pharmacy stocked for the medicine we practice.
Neurology diagnostics CSF collection and analysis, EEG, and muscle and nerve biopsies for neurologic workups.
Ophthalmology Dedicated ophthalmology exam rooms and a separate ophthalmology treatment area, giving eye workups their own dedicated flow.

A note on our CT and MRI: Until our permanent imaging suite is complete, our CT and MRI live in state-of-the-art specialty medical trailers directly behind the hospital — fully climate-controlled and purpose-built for imaging.

Oncology: At opening, we partner with a mobile board-certified medical oncologist who administers chemotherapy in-house. As we expand, we’re building dedicated oncology infrastructure — chemotherapy hood, ante-room, and treatment space — to bring more of that care under our own roof.

WHAT’S NEXT

Growing with our community

Summit opens with a fully operational multi-specialty hospital in the existing building. A roughly 4,500 square-foot addition is coming that will add three more surgical suites, an in-house imaging suite for our CT and MRI, dedicated anesthesia induction, and a step-down ward for patients who are past the critical stage but not yet ready to go home.

We’re phasing intentionally — opening with everything we need to take excellent care of your pet from day one, and adding capacity as our community grows with us.

OUR TEAM

How we thought about our team

Caring for our team and providing them with a workplace they love coming to every day is hugely important to us.

Wellness room Dedicated space for decompression and quiet time.
Employee pet runs Many of our team members are pet owners themselves and their dogs come to work.
Staff lounge Natural light that opens onto a courtyard.
Finished with care Staff spaces finished with the same care we gave the patient areas.
When our team is well cared for, your pet is better cared for.

Photos are coming soon

We’re in the final stretch of construction, and we’ll be adding finished-facility photos here soon. If you’d like to follow along in the meantime, we’ll be posting progress updates on our blog and on Instagram and Facebook.
