Your Pet’s Recovery Deserves
Dedicated Attention.
When a pet is hospitalized after surgery or during a serious illness, the quality of care they receive in those hours and days is just as important as the procedure itself. At Summit, critical care is provided by a board-certified criticalist who is present, focused, and dedicated entirely to the patients in our care.
A Criticalist Who Is Here.
Entirely.
Most specialty hospitals with a criticalist share that doctor across both intensive care and an emergency department — which means their attention is divided between admitted patients and whatever walks through the door. Summit is different.
For referring veterinarians, this dedication matters. The patients you send to us are monitored by a board-certified criticalist. Dr. Tzipory is present, focused, and dedicated entirely to the patients in our care.
“Critical care that is truly critical.”
Same-Day Transfer —
When Your Patient Can’t Wait.
Summit does not operate a walk-in emergency department, but we understand that some patients cannot wait for a scheduled appointment. If you have a patient who needs to be seen today — a seizing dog, a severe respiratory case, a post-operative complication — we will work to make that happen.
Same-day transfers to Summit are available based on the patient’s needs and full case discussion between our criticalist and your primary veterinarian. This direct communication with our referring veterinarians ensures every transfer is appropriate and well-coordinated.
Your primary care veterinarian is welcome to contact us directly if there is any uncertainty regarding whether a patient should be referred emergently. We will be available to help support those decisions.
Built From the Ground Up for This Work.
Dr. Megan Tzipory’s path to becoming a criticalist is unique — and it shows in how she practices. Before attending veterinary school, she spent more than ten years working as an emergency and ICU veterinary technician. That foundation of hands-on experience shapes everything about how she approaches patient care today.
She earned her DVM with honors from Colorado State University, completed a rotating internship at a specialty hospital in Boston, and finished her residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists.
Her clinical interests include high-risk anesthesia, respiratory disease, mechanical ventilation, sepsis, and pain management.

Truly Critical.
At Summit, the criticalist-as-hospitalist model is not a marketing phrase — it is the operational reality of how this hospital was designed. Every decision about staffing, scheduling, and hospital structure flows from one principle: that critically ill patients deserve undivided specialist attention.
