GETTING STARTED

How to refer a patient

You can send us a case three ways:

After we receive your referral: Our team calls the client within one business day to book the consult. You’ll receive confirmation once the appointment is scheduled.

URGENT TRANSFERS

When your patient can’t wait

Summit does not operate a traditional walk-in emergency department. If you have a patient who cannot wait for a scheduled appointment — a seizing dog, a hemoabdomen, a down dog, a ruptured corneal ulcer — call us.

Same-day transfers are coordinated through a direct conversation between Dr. Megan Tzipory, DVM, DACVECC (or the relevant specialist) and yourself. This ensures that we have received all of the appropriate information about your patient and can be ready for their arrival.

Depending on the needs of the patient, we may not be able to facilitate same-day transfer, so this phone call is a crucial step to ensure that we can set you and your clients up for success.

If you are uncertain whether a case should be referred urgently, reach out — we are here to help you make that call.
LONG-DISTANCE REFERRALS

Referring from out of state

For clinics whose owners will travel a distance to reach us — across the state or across the country — we work with you to make the visit efficient.

  • Phone consultation with the owner before they travel, with time to review records and provide a written estimate.
  • Coordinated scheduling built around the needs of the case and the travel timeline.
  • Same-day consult plus diagnostics in most cases, including a complete physical examination.
  • Same-day or next-day surgery when the case and schedule allow.

To coordinate a long-distance referral, call 720.991.3040 or email [email protected] and let us know the owner will be traveling. We will build the schedule around them.
