Education & Training
Mike Green, DVM, DACVS is a Colorado native who was raised in Gunnison, where he developed an early appreciation for the outdoors. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Following graduation, he completed a rotating small animal internship at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, followed by a surgical internship at SAGE Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Centers in Northern California. He subsequently completed a three-year surgical residency at the same institution.
Specialty Expertise
Dr. Green brings over 15 years of experience serving the veterinary community in Northern
Colorado. His primary clinical interests include orthopedic surgery, and he maintains a high level
of proficiency across a broad range of surgical procedures. He is dedicated to delivering high-
quality patient care and is committed to fostering collaborative, professional relationships with
clients and colleagues.
For the past 13 years, Dr. Green has served as the medical consultant for multiple Northern
Colorado law enforcement K9 units — traveling nationally alongside handlers and agencies to
perform prepurchase evaluations, overseeing each dog's medical care from acquisition through
retirement, and leading annual medical training for K9 units across the region. It is a role that
reflects the same dedication he brings to every patient: thorough, consistent, and genuinely
invested in their long-term wellbeing.
Philosophy of Care
“A collaborative and wholistic approach is the hallmark of quality veterinary care.”
As an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Green frequently encounters patients managing multiple conditions at once. His role is to diagnose, prioritize, and develop a plan that maximizes quality of life — for both the patient and their family. At Summit, that plan is never built in isolation. The collaborative structure of the practice means every patient benefits not only from the expertise of their primary specialist, but from the collective knowledge of the entire care team. That same spirit extends to the patient's family veterinarian, ensuring a truly wholistic approach to care — one that considers the whole animal, not just the presenting problem.
Why Summit
Dr. Green has spent the better part of his career serving the Northern Colorado veterinary community, and Summit represents the kind of practice he has always believed specialty medicine could be — one where collaboration is the foundation, not an afterthought. The opportunity to work alongside exceptional colleagues, in a facility built for the work they do, made the decision an easy one.
Outside the Hospital
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Green values spending time with his wife, two daughters, and Golden Retriever. He also enjoys fly-fishing, bird-watching, photography, hiking, and exploring Colorado’s backcountry.
